Krasnodar, 18 July – Yug Times. Nearly 650 Cossacks, together with patrol forces, mounted and dog police officers, secured order in the streets of Greater Sochi during the 2018 World Cup.
Last week, deputy head of the regional police department Yuri Safronov and ataman of the Kuban Cossack Host Nikolai Doluda presented the most distinguished officers with awards for the excellent maintenance of law and order.
Commenting on the practice of joint patrolling of Cossack and police officers, Mr. Safronov noted its positive results: “The patrolling Cossacks have a ‘sobering’ effect upon the nuisancers.” During the matches held in Sochi, the Cossacks took part in over 1,200 joint patrols throughout Greater Sochi - from Lazarevskoe down to Adler.
Every detail has a Cossack with a certain command of English who was able to communicate with the foreign guests. Most frequently, the tourists asked how to get to the stadium, the hotels, canteens and Olympic objects.
