Krasnodar, 22 June – Yug Times. Andrei Arendarenko makes no secrets of his successfulness. “I give people a chance to express their problems, and at the same time I make conditions for an open dialog between the authorities, people and business circles.”
“In childhood, I wanted to be a constructor - then our family was building a dacha, and I liked this profession very much,” acknowledges Andrei. “As a matter of fact, I did become a constructor - however what I am building is business, not houses.”
Upon graduating from the Kuban State Agrarian University (specialization Finances and Credit), Arendarenko had worked at the mayor’s office for four years before he understood that it was time to leave the office for some real business. So he took up auditing. It was then that he took attention of the Kuban Segodnia (Kuban Today) newspaper, which fact radically altered his life.
“I saw [their] documents and understood that the newspaper was in a really sad state, or on the verge of survival, to be more exact,” recalls Arendarenko. “But I had a clear vision of what should be done to let it start a new life. I enlisted the support of my family and decided to take up rescuing the paper.”
Few can understand how an economist could become editorin-chief of a regional paper.
“I don’t care about the hearsays,” Andrei states. “Others would study for many years and take different courses to become a journalist, while I simply feel on the molecular level how to write correctly, how to present the material, what the readers will read and what their reaction will be…”
Currently Andrei Arendarenko manages two electronic and two print media - Kuban Segodnia and Argumenty Nedeli (Arguments of the Week).
