Krasnodar, 20 March – Yug Times. On Sunday, 18 March, Russia was electing not just the President but the national development strategy for the nearest six years. The attendance in the Krasnodar region was 77.87%.

In Kuban, acting President Vladimir Putin got more than 2.5 million, or 81.35%, votes. His nationwide result was a bit lower — 76%. Putin was followed by Pavel Grudinin, nominated by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation; his result in Kuban was 10.3% votes. Vladimir Zhirinovsky came third with 144,000 votes, or 4.57%.

Ksenia Sobchak came fourth in the region, with about 30,000, or 0.97%, votes. Business ombudsman Boris Titov was supported by 0.68% voters. He was followed by Maksim Suraikin (Communists of Russia; 0.54%), Grigori Yavlinsky (Yabloko; 0.52%) and Sergei Baburin (0.50%).

Upon visiting 12 polling stations in Krasnodar, Member of the Board of the Association of Noncommercial Organizations on Protection of Electoral Rights Sergei Bolshakov said: “At the stations, I noted observers from all candidates and observers from the national and regional Civic Chambers. I think that the Civic Chamber of the Krasnodar region has managed to realize its rights, for their public observers were by far not accidental people.”

Expert in politics from Latvia Einārs Graudiņš agrees with such assessment of his colleague. He visited over ten polling places and stressed that such an unprecedently high attendance was evidence of really broad popular support of the main candidate.
