Krasnodar, 25 October – Yug Times. In Sochi, new monuments and so-called ‘small architectural objects’ keep on appearing shortly before the 2018 World Cup.
The main object of the Mundial is the Fisht Stadium. During the 2014 Winter Olympics, its stands had accommodated 40,000 spectators, but FIFA requested to increase its capacity to 45,000.
Apart from the reconstructed stadium and new sports infrastructure, Sochi will have art-objects directly connected with the 2018 Football World Cup. Local artists Viktoria and Vladimir Kirilenko are the authors of most of them. They called their exclusive art project devoted to the tournament “Football and Eternity.” Its mission is to promote and popularize sports.
A unique exhibition of their pictures was already held in such global cultural centres as New York and Rome. The artistic world created by the Kirilenkos demonstrates the foot ball in many different guises — as a planet, as the god of football, and even as a pomegranate — the latter is a symbol closely related to the life of Sochi as a seaside resort.
The creative work of the artists from Sochi was recognized far beyond Russia. Their project was awarded a UNESCO prize, and FIFA shot a special film about it. Apart from the paintings, the artists devoted a series of small architectural objects to the World Cup. One of them was a sculpture of Cerberus. Like the other works of the cycle, Cerberus was installed in Sochi, at Plastunovskaya Street.
Before long, Sochi will welcome a number of other sculptures dedicated to the Mundial — like a monument to the famous Soviet footballer Nikita Simonyan that will be erected near the Fisht Stadium.
