The Krasnodar regional agrotourism association unites around fifty local farmers. At the moment, this relatively rare kind of business activity most rapidly develops in the Seversky rayon.
Our interviewee is Svetlana Kopylova, director of the Agency for Development of Rural Initiatives, and member of the taskforce on agricultural and rural tourism working under the aegis of the regional Legislative Assembly. “[In the Seversky rayon,] we have a list of 40 to 50 farmsteads ready to receive tourists. The most popular destinations are the horse farm Vladimirovka, Ubinskaya Glade, White Swan Zoo, Sober Active Hotel, and Cider Farm. The scope of their activities is very broad – from horseback ridings and hiking tours to mountaineering and quad biking, to gastronomic, wine tasting tours and conventional fishing.
“This year, we plan to receive tourists from Krasnodar, other Kuban cities and the Rostov region, as well as from other big cities of the country – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg. We expect that these will be holidaymakers heading for the seaside.
“A contemporary tourist has become very choosy – he wants to be amazed and struck every day. To entertain them and make them come and visit us again, we hold different festivals, like The Merry Cracklings, that has been held for two years. It’s an exciting gastronomic tour that includes dishes of different ethnic groups living in Kuban. “Such kinds of event tourism have proved their popularity – especially among urban residents lacking rural sincerity and space, and therefore eager to go to the country for a change.”
