During his visit of Sochi, Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev announced that the plans to keep on using the city’s former Olympic objects are on the whole fulfilled, and their occupancy remains quite high.

Mr. Medvedev reminded that before the Olympic Games - 2014 it had been planned that after the Olympics the city’s state-of-the-art infrastructure would continue to work for the region’s benefit to turn Sochi into a world-class round-the-year resort, professional athletes’ preparation centre, and favourite recreation destination for millions of people.

“As a matter of fact, these plans have been accomplished,” stated Mr. Medvedev. “Practically all Olympic grounds of the mountain and seaside clusters are used round-the-year.”

In particular, these grounds are used as training centres for various teams, including Russian national ones, festivals, concerts, forums and conferences. “This means that the occupancy and workload of these objects look quite good,” concluded Medvedev.

According to him, the hotel business in Sochi is doing not bad, either.

“They all say that the occupancy of the hotels is 98-99%, or even 100%,” said Prime Minister. He reminded that 42 new hotels had been built in the city before the Olympic Games, 28 had been reconstructed, so that now the city has 73,000 rooms able to accommodate 200,000 people at once. That is why, despite the significant increase of the number of tourists, there are hotel rooms available even in the high season.
