ЮГ Times. Philip Morris International (PMI) was one of the first international companies that came to Krasnodar region in the 1990s.
The launch of a state-of-the-art facility on the basis of Krasnodar Tobacco Factory in 1993 was the global tobacco industry leader’s first large-scale investment project in Russia.
Today our interviewee, Sergei Slipchenko, PMI Corporate Affairs Vice President, Russia and Belarus, speaks about the Company’s development strategy.
“The Sochi Investment Forum is a significant event: the agreements and projects discussed there will often change the business landscape at the regional as well as national level, becoming the driving force of the country’s further economic advancement.
“This [discussion and presentation] ground is investment-oriented, and, in my opinion, presence of iQOS, our innovative product with a potentially reduced risk, was quite logical within the Forum’s space. For iQOS excellently shows how investments, science and innovations have resulted in the appearance of a product or even a new product category that may totally change the tobacco industry. What is the novelty of this product as opposed to usual cigarettes? The novelty is the whole concept. According to scientific data, the main risk factors for smokers are toxic and carcinogenic constituents emitted in the process of burning of a cigarette and contained in the tobacco smoke. That is why we had been concentrating all our developments and researches on the search for a means to exclude the process of combustion and decrease the levels of the toxic substances emitted. And here lies iQOS’s potential to reduce the risk for the smoker’s health.
“We are confident that the future of the [tobacco] industry lies in potentially reduced risk products. And our goal is to be the leaders in this sphere.”
