ЮГ Times.The Yug Times is asking Aleksey Chernenko, Chairman of the regional Election Committee, how the current election campaign is being organized in the Krasnodar region, and who Kuban citizens will be voting for.
“The current election campaign is highly competitive: there are 7 to 10 candidates from 12 political parties running in each constituency – altogether 72 nominees. Let me remind you that only seven parties took part in the previous Duma election campaign held in 2011.
“Our region seems to be interesting for international observers: two OSCE representatives have already arrived to Krasnodar; they will be here on the election day too.
“Our task is to ensure that the upcoming election is transparent and legitimate.
“In my opinion, such interest to our area is partially caused by the fact that the Krasnodar region is one of the biggest election areas in the country. We have eight constituencies – only Moscow City and the Moscow region have more.
“If someone might be trying to put any pressure on the regional Election Committee, I can assure you that that would be a totally useless undertaking. In our work, we are guided by law solely, nothing else.
“I think that quite many citizens will take part in this Duma election, so that nobody could doubt its legitimacy and universality of the people’s representation in the Federal Parliament.
“The counting of votes will begin immediately after the polling stations are closed. Most likely, the preliminary result will be known by the following morning. The final result will be announced by the Central Election Committee after they have received data from all parts of the country. According to law, it must occur no later than by October 3.”
Traditionally,observers from political parties and candidates are present at the polling stations on the ballot day. This election won't be an axception. According to the rules, the candidates and parties may each appoint two observers per station. Besides, the parties and candidates may delegate their members to the election committee with advisory capacity.
