Reportedly, unauthorized construction remains an issue for the municipalities, and the authorities are trying hard to resolve it.

In the framework of his working visit to Sochi, Russian Vice Prime Minister Dmitri Kozak inspected the unauthorized construction sites located in the Imeretian plain.

As on now, there are 577 uncontrolled construction sites in Sochi, including blocks of flats, retail pavilions, garage complexes and sheds. All of them are to be pulled down according to court decisions.

Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev said that the problem of illegal housing construction remains an issue not only for Sochi but also for the rest of the Krasnodar region, and it must be resolved “in an integrated way.”  “We should elaborate the mechanism and methods to make unfair developers pull down illegal objects at their own cost,” Mr. Kondratiev was quoted as saying. “There should be irreversible liability for illegal construction - up to criminal.”

Dmitri Kozak backed Governor’s initiative. He stated that the activity aimed at development of the mechanism of removal of illegal edifices will continue at local and federal levels.
