The Krasnodar Youth Theatre continues to stage Shakespeare’s plays. After the much spoken-of Winter’s Tale, what we watched was a completely different Swan of Avon, as the famous playwright had been referred to by his contemporaries.

In our opinion, a desire to stage Shakespeare was dictated by the stage director Daniil Beznosov’s aesthetic passions and views - for he seems to be much more than a mere manager; he as a genuinely ambitious director really directs his staff and educates his audience.

So Midsummer Night’s Dream, a famous but by no means the greatest piece by William Shakespeare, became a splendid object for Beznosov’s fantasies and tricks.

Despite the fact that it is a word that is the main expressive means of a dramatic performance, the Midsummer Night’s Dream staged in Krasnodar was woven from movements and flexible mise en scenes.

The actors moved smartly and nicely - and they learnt the text skillfully. By the way, Shakespeare’s comedy was staged under the name of The Night of Love Insanities. Frankly speaking, it is quite a sharp and piercing comedy, with lots of fore- and backgrounds, love liaisons, metamorphoses and metaphors.

In fact, Beznosov’s performance, however it was a little bit too rough and long, is a deep, clever and interesting piece of work.

Daniil Beznosov’s style may be described as intellectual buffoonery and comedy, a fantastic dream where everything is interwoven and where love acts as the main magic - and it is another chance to look at ourselves.
