On April 22–23, the Molniya Yamal resort complex located in the town of Nebug, Tuapse rayon, hosted the forum “Marketing development strategy for tourist resorts of the Tuapse rayon.”

In his welcoming speech, Head of Municipality Vladimir Lybanev said: “Let me greet in the [Tuapse] rayon all participants and guests of the business discussion we have initiated. I am hoping that this forum will answer the main questions, namely how to attract tourists to the rayon, which marketing tools to use, and how to brand the territories correctly.”

The experts that were taking the floor were seen to have prepared specially for this forum.
“We are glad to state that the initiative of this event came from ‘below’,” said Deputy Governor Igor Galas. “It is the businesspeople – hoteliers, directors of spas and recreation facilities – who are first of all interested in the discussion. I am confident that all decisions that will be taken at the forum will be fulfilled. And I guarantee the support of all [your] initiatives by the regional power.”

Today, the Kuban regional authorities are working hard on the elaboration of the region’s economic development strategy.

“Last year, we held a number of conferences and seminars, including those dwelling on the question how to do branding of the territories,” Minister of Economy Aleksandr Ruppel was quoted as saying at the forum. “The Tuapse rayon was the first territory to respond to the signal from ‘above’ and initiate this forum.”

According to Mr. Ruppel, resorts must develop in the following three dimensions: comfort, quality and price. The results of the first three months of this year showed a 30% increase in the number of tourists as well as in payments into budget.

“We all understand that this local success has to do with the restrictions regarding Turkey and Egypt and the exchange rate,” said Mr. Ruppel.

“Our main challenge is to develop such tools and build up such an infrastructure so that domestic tourists would undoubtedly vote in favour of our region’s Black Sea coast.”

It was Natasha Grand, Director of London-based Identity Institute who delivered one of the brightest presentations during the forum. She was quoted as saying that the Tuapse rayon as a resort area must be associated with something unique – some image peculiar only for this territory.
