Q.: Why did you choose that particular play?
A.: I was looking for some material for the Honoured Artist Vera Velikanova, who had due to various reasons not been engaged in the repertoire. I felt it sad that such an actress in fact had no role to play.
Q.: In the theatre, you work as Head Scriptwriter, although I know you as an experienced theatre director…
A.: Yes, I have staged more than 30 plays in a number of theatres of academic level. Before I and my family came to work in Krasnodar for domestic reasons, I had worked in Karaganda [Kazakhstan] and Krasnoyarsk.
Q.: In Moscow, you studied at Konstantin Raikin’s school, and your tutor was Kama Ginkas. How was it to communicate with a live genius?
A.: I had always wanted to be his disciple, for he is one of the few representatives of Tovstonogov’s school. However Ginkas usually jokes that he had spent five years to grasp Tovstonogov’s school and then the whole life to get rid of it, in the very process of teaching Master had more than once been alluding to Tovstonogov, advising us to attentively read his works.
