Krasnodar, 26 August – Yug Times. Krasnodar Krai is home to more than 15,000 archaeological sites, Governor Veniamin Kondratiev has said.
“Every year, around 200 archaeological expeditions operate in our region. They carry out excavations and study the uncovered artefacts, which are then transferred to museums so that residents and visitors can learn as much as possible about the history of these lands,” Veniamin Kondratiev said.
Since spring 2026, specialists have been studying the Volna-3 settlement in Temriuk Rayon. The site dates back to the Late Antique period and was a manor complex. Several courses of masonry have survived from its stone foundations. In August, archaeologists began excavations at the Severskoe 2 settlement in Seversky Rayon. The research is being conducted over an area of 800 square metres, half of which have already been examined.
Specialists found fragments of red- and grey-clay pottery, clay weights used in weaving and fishing, and a stone grain mill. An intact hand-moulded mug has also survived beneath the layer of soil.
