Krasnodar, 5 August – Yug Times. Officials in Sochi have discussed additional measures aimed at reducing the number of road accidents across the city.
An extraordinary meeting of the city's Interdepartmental Road Safety Commission was held to review the circumstances surrounding the fatal traffic collisions recorded on Sochi's road network in July 2026. Particular attention was given to a high-profile crash that claimed the lives of five people. Following the meeting, the commission agreed on a package of measures to improve road safety in tunnels along federal highways. These include installing rumble strips at tunnel entrances, updating road markings, introducing additional 60 km/h speed limit signs, and seeking funding for the installation of safety barriers at tunnel approaches.
"Following a comprehensive review of July's fatal road accidents, we concluded that the principal causes were vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic and excessive speed," said Sochi Deputy Mayor Viacheslav Bauer. "The relevant authorities have been instructed to implement the necessary measures."
