Krasnodar, 16 October – Yug Times. In Sochi, officials assessed the accessibility of the urban environment for people with disabilities. The monitoring was conducted by city administration represent atives as part of the municipal Ac cessible Environment programme. Since the beginning of the year, 560 consumer facilities and 48 pedestrian crossings have been inspected. Representatives of disability organisations regularly take part in these on-site evaluations.
Earlier this week, Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin, together with Oleg Stekolnikov, Director of the Regional Competence Cen tre “Accessible Environment,” reviewed how barrier-free routes are equipped in the city centre.
“Comprehensive efforts to create an accessible environment for people with limited mobility be gan in Sochi during preparations for the Paralympic Games, and since then it has truly become one of the most barrier-free cities in the country. Today, 65% of city buses meet accessibility standards. In addition, Sochi has been selected to receive a subsidy for purchasing lifts for cultural institutions," said Andrei Proshunin.
