Krasnodar, 27 August – Yug Times. Sochi stages first international high-diving tournament, Wings of the World.
Sochi has hosted its first-ever international high-diving competition, the Wings of the World festival, at the city’s Sea Port.
Sixteen athletes from thirteen countries — Russia, Armenia, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Spain, Colombia, Poland, the USA, South Korea, Australia, Mexico and France — took part in the event.
“Holding Sochi’s first-ever high-diving competition is a landmark event not just for the sporting community but for the whole city,” commented Anatoli Mirosh nikov, Head of Sochi’s Department of Physical Culture and Sport. “High-diving is a unique discipline that combines breathtaking spectacle, the highest levels of athleticism and an iron will. Hosting such a tournament here proves Sochi’s status as a city ready for top-level competitions of any scale or complexity. I hope these competitions will become a bright annual tradition and take a proud place in Russia’s sporting calendar.”
Around a thousand Sochi residents attended the event.
