Krasnodar, 15 April – Yug Times. Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratiev has reportedly taken part in the meeting on the spring sowing campaign in the regions chaired by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Patrushev.
Speaking at the meeting, the Kuban leader noted that about 1.8 million hectares of arable land in the Krasnodar region were sown with winter crops.
“Winter wheat accounts for over 90% of this area. We work closely with scientists and breeders. Most crops are in good condition. More than 1.8 million hectares have been allocated to spring crops this year. Of these, 645,000 hectares have already been sown. The sowing of early grains has been completed; we are finishing sowing sugar beet and have started to seed sunflower, grain maize and soya. This year we plan to increase the proportion of domestically produced seeds: for maize and sunflower to 55 per cent, and for sugar beet to 15 per cent,” said Veniamin Kondratiev.
He also spoke about preparations for rice planting. Rice is a crop of strategic importance for the Kuban region. The planting campaign is to start during the last ten days of April and will be finished by 10 May.
