Krasnodar, 28 November – Yug Times. By the end of the year, garden plantings in the Kuban region will grow by 1, 200 hectares.
To date, new seedlings have appeared on an area of 650 hectares. The trees are planted with the help of material grown in the region, in 30 nurseries.
"We managed to double the production of fruit seedlings. If in 2015 we produced a little more than 3 million, in 2023 we got 6.5 million," said Governor Veniamin Kondratiev. "This year we plan to achieve a result not lower than last year's. Specialists grow high-quality, competitive planting material. It is in demand among horticultural farms outside the region. Last year we harvested 486,000 tonnes of fruit and berries, and in 2024 we plan to increase this result."
Almost 90% of the planted orchards are of intensive and super-intensive type which implies high planting density, when instead of 800 seedlings per hectare, up to 5,000 are planted.
The ‘Small Garden’ grant support programme has been operating in the region for seven years now. Compensations for the planting of intensive gardens and the purchase of agricultural machinery reach 80% of their value.
