Krasnodar, 6 September – Yug Times. A new type of telephone fraud has been recorded in Adyghea.
A 73-year-old local resident turned to the police in the Takhtamukai district. She reported that at the beginning of the last week, she received a call from an unknown man who under the guise of an employee of the energy company offered her to sign up for a service, according to which she could allegedly pay electricity bills on special terms.
The woman gave her consent and told the caller the code, which had been sent to her by SMS, after which her contact with the unknown man ceased.
“Later, other ‘specialists’ began to contact the woman. They convinced her that her account on the Unified State Services Portal had been hacked and that she needed to take urgent measures to protect her personal data, including her bank accounts with personal savings,” the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported in detail. “She again relied on the strangers and began to fulfil all their instructions. Thus, thinking that she was transferring money to a ‘safe’ account, the woman transferred 185,000 roubles to the fraudsters.”
