Krasnodar, 3 May – Yug Times. The beaches in Sochi will become part of the barrier-free environment for physically challenged people.
The ‘Accessible Environment’ project is being implemented in the resort city. In 2023, 40 beach areas were equipped for people with disabilities. All necessary elements of the barrier-free environment were installed there - convenient entrances, descents to the water, and approaches to the service facilities. "The demand for inclusion of the urban environment is growing, as it concerns not only wheelchair users, but also mothers with children, temporarily disabled persons and elderly people. According to various expert estimates, they account for 20-25 per cent of the total population. The agenda is focused on the issue of accessibility of the beach territories and their infrastructure. Out of 170 city beaches, 68 are accessible, and 40 ramped approaches for beaches were purchased in 2023, - said Sochi First Deputy Mayor Svetlana Kalinina. The new project will update the list of barrier-free environment facilities, the locations of ramps.
