Krasnodar, 16 September – Yug Times. The challenges of harvesting rice in this year's conditions were discussed at a Rice Field Day.
Krasnodar Krai remains Russia's leading rice-growing region. Last year, for example, the gross harvest of this key crop in the Kuban region exceeded 850,000 tonnes after processing, accounting for more than 70% of the national total.
A fleet of 670 combine harvesters is ready for this year's harvest, with plans to bring in another 150 machines to complete the work as quickly as possible. Three grain elevators, with a combined capacity of around 320,000 tonnes, are ready to receive the rice. The 33 grain dryers at these facilities have an average combined capacity of 5,200 tonnes per day.
The reports presented at the meeting focused on the importance of harvesting the rice crop on time, on the expected weather conditions over the coming month and the current state of the industry across the country.
Particular attention was paid to fire safety, clearing irrigation and drain age channels, deepening perimeter drainage ditches and carrying out major land levelling. Deputy heads of the Kuban's principal rice-growing municipalities were advised to personally oversee the progress of the harvesting campaign.
