Krasnodar, 6 February – Yug Times. Our today’s interviewee is Sergei Manko, Representative of Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry in Krasnodar.
Q.: Recently you came back from an international secondment. Could you please tell us about your work, your impressions of another nation’s culture and mentality?
A.: For five years – from 2014 until 2019 – I had the luck to work as Counsellor at the Russian Embassy in the Republic of South Ossetia. The hospitable South Ossetians are famous for their patriotism and courage. They have always treated Russia openly, remembering its support during the most difficult time of their history.
The life in the country is turning for the better; the city of Tskhinval is growing prettier. With active support of Russia, South Ossetia implements programs aimed at the socio-economic advancement of the country. And the people do their utmost to be able to quit the situation they had found themselves in because of the permanent aggression of Georgia – for the murderous conflict had been lasting for decades there.
Q.: You have resumed your work as the Head of Russia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Representative Office in Krasnodar. What is its role in Krasnodar province? And what are its functions?
A.: The Representative Office plays a significant role in the international life of our region. Besides, we also work with the Republic of Adyghea.
Our activities are focused on two directions – international relations and consul services. The former is aimed at coordinating events of international level and promoting development of foreign economic links of the mentioned two regions. As for Krasnodar province, it is worth noting that for the past ten – fifteen years it has remained one of the most investment-friendly regions in Russia. The other branch of our work is consul issues. There are lots of them. On average, we respond to more than 1,000 inquiries about entering and leaving the country, citizenship, medical treatment abroad, legalisation, etc.
Q.: What are your most challenging tasks for 2020?
A.: Our main tasks are to help implement Russia’s foreign political line, promote the region’s foreign economic links, and of course to render consul services.
During the year 2020 we will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. We will be receiving numerous guests from abroad, including from our sister-cities. Besides, this year Kuban State University celebrates its centenary. We have established especially warm relations with the University, because for over twenty years our diplomatic corps has been formed mainly at the cost of its graduates.
