Krasnodar, 24 January – Yug Times. Buying ready-to-eat food is a way-out for working people who have no time to devise meals every day for themselves and their families. Besides, it is so simple to call upon a takeaway outlet and buy everything a person may want.
Ready-to-eat food looks fresh and mouth-watering on the shop windows, and the aroma in the delicatessen department is always tempting. People want to believe that the salad here or the baked pudding over there were made from fresh and high-quality materials. And that the cook that made them wore clean gloves and had a sterile - like in the hospital’s dressing ward - working place. However, epidemiologists may be thinking differently.
“All ready-to-eat food from supermarkets are a fertile field for bacterial propagation,” epidemiologist Yulia Kovaleva says. “There may be lots of hypotheses as for the source of the infection: a spoiled ingredient, the environment, storage conditions or the cook. In any case, a person that underwent poisoning must drink much liquid to empty the intestines and take absorbents to remove the poison. If that wouldn’t help and the temperature went up, consult a doctor who would prescribe an antibacterial medicine. Keep to a diet for three days, eat only boiled or stewed food, and drink rice water.”
Although it is quite possible and lawful to seek justice and punish the poisoning shop, few would like to collect the proofs and go around the controlling authorities - even more so in unstable state of health. People usually throw away the receipts and prefer to get rid of the leftovers of the ‘bad’ food to be on the safe side. They rarely send for an ambulance, and even if they call the doctor, they are far from thinking of seeking justice and trying to punish the guilty shop - but they are wrong to think that way! The harm done to the consumer’s health because of the drawbacks in the product recipe all some other faults is subject to compensation by the seller. However, if it would be proved that you had kept the product improperly before you consumed it, you would be the only liable for that.
