Krasnodar, 20 March – Yug Times. Last week, the head of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, Aleksandr Kurenkov, visited the Kuban region to review local preparedness for fires and floods.
He held a meeting at Sochi’s city administration and visited a training centre in Divnomorskoe. Together with Governor Veniamin Kondratiev, the minister inaugurated a new fire and rescue station near Gelendzhik, in the village of Betta.
The unit staff comprises 50 trained firefighters and rescuers, who will be on duty around the clock.
The station has been equipped with essential gear and modern vehicles, including three fire engines and a fire motor ladder for rescue operations and extinguishing fires at height.
Mr. Kurenkov said: “During the peak tourist season, the strain on coastal infrastructure rises significantly. This demands heightened attention to the safety of our citizens. In this context, the opening of the new fire and rescue station is of particular importance."
Governor Kondratiev added that the station will serve Betta and five nearby settlements, with a combined population of more than 7,000 people.
