Krasnodar, 20 November – Yug Times. For two weeks already, the forest floor has been on fire in Kuban province. Over 100 hectares of forests have been burnt down. Ministry of Emergency Situation, volunteers, local people and aviation are engaged to help put down the fires.
It was the challenging warm weather conditions set up in the Kuban region since the beginning of November that contributed to the spread of natural fires throughout the area. The first news about the forest fires came on 4 November. However, the regional Ministry for Natural Resources announced that the suspected cause of the fires were arsons.
The most serious fire was registered in Seversky rayon. The emergency situation regime was introduced in the municipality on 11 November. To put out the fire, a Mi-8 helicopter discharged about 30 tons of water into the out-of-the-way places near the tiny village of Plancheskaya Shchel.
According to Nikolai Platonikhin, the acting head of the regional Emergency Office, their agency has issued 50 protocols about violation of fire safety regulations since the beginning of November; four cases have been submitted to law-enforcement agencies to file criminal cases.
Class 4 fire danger will be acting until 24 November at least, and no precipitation is expected so far,” Dmitri Bozhkov, deputy head of the Department of supervisory and prevention work of the regional Emergency Office, said.
