Krasnodar, 13 March – Yug Times. Yelena Bakumenko, Chief of the Krasnodar regional operational office of the Otkrytie Bank, has passed a long and thorny professional path.
Q.: What was your first employment?
A.: It was a joint venture, engaged in the construction of agricultural projects in the Amur region. I had to communicate a lot with international businesspeople.
Q.: How did you find yourself in the banking sector?
A.: It happened in 1996. I began as a foreign currency cashier at the branch office of the Russian Credit Bank in Blagoveshchensk. Then I worked at various managing positions at Impexbank. From 2007, I was with VTB24. Last year, I was invited to head the Krasnodar regional office of the Otkrytie Bank.
Q.: Is it difficult for a woman to be a top manager of such a large structure?
A.: Yes and no. It’s difficult because you must assess your own level of responsibility - for your staff, your clients, and your business. And it’s easy because if you have correctly chosen the people for the goals and tasks of your business, you feel happy and satisfied with your joint work.
Q.: Presently, it is the fashion to say that teamwork is the main thing and that the employee’s professional knowledge retreats to the background. What do you pay attention to when employing a new employee?
A.: In fact, it’s not merely fashion - you won’t be able to do anything without your team. And without professionalism too. Nobody wants to come across dilettantism in any sphere. But, nonetheless, what we pay our first attention to when interviewing a job applicant is his or her customer-oriented approach.
