Krasnodar, 26 February – Yug Times. Last Saturday, Krasnodar played host to the festivities dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the history of the Kuban regional flag. Over 8,500 participants came to Teatralnaya Square to take part in the solemn ceremony.
To the strains of the brass band, the Cossacks of the Guard of Honour presented the historic symbol of the Kuban region. Then the contemporary 10 x 15 m big flag was hoisted over the square. Addressing the audience, Governor Veniamin Kondratiev noted that the history of the flag is the history of the region.“Over the last one hundred years, the flag has undergone verious alterations, but now it’s a permanent symbol of the assured and flourishing Kuban,” he announced. “Today the Kuban flag is known throughout the world. It is hoisted for national ceremonies, and it is present in our everyday life. We must honour and respect our flag – then it will be honoured by our children and further generations.”
The other speakers also noted the significance of the Kuban banner. After the solemnity, the Cossacks of the Guard of Honour of the Kuban Cossack Host presented fragments of the ceremony ‘Kuban’s Hour of Glory’ and explained the history and the meaning of the regional flag.
