Krasnodar, 31 January – Yug Times. The Yug Times continues its series of publications about young entrepreneurs that have managed to turn their hobbies into profitable businesses. Some four years ago, Polina Masalygina could not even imagine that she would become a popular blogger and the author of two bestselling books.
“While at the university, I noticed that I was doing many speech mistakes,” she recalls.
“So I decided to open a blog to narrate the most popular [speech] errors.”
Her blog called Russian Language appeared in April 2014, when senior Russian schoolchildren were preparing to take their Unified National Exam. Within a couple of days, it got thousands of subscribers. They thanked Polina for her interesting and cognitive posts, argued and asked questions.
She acknowledges that at first the blog was just a hobby; it began to return interest only two years later - in 2016. Now she has nearly 400,000 subscribers from all over the world - by the way, including such celebrities as Sergei Shnurov and Ksenia Sobchak. Last year, a big Moscow-based publishing house proposed Polina to publish a book on grounds of her blog. The first 3,000 copies were sold off in two days; the second and the third editions followed the trend.
Soon after the release of the first book - The Great Russian Language, her second book - The Mighty Russian Language - appeared. Both are bestsellers, bought by school and university students and even teacher of the Russian language who thank Polina for her simple and concise narratives about the great and mighty Russian language.
