Krasnodar, 10 January – Yug Times. Specialists of the perinatal centre of the regional clinical hospital No. 2 have reportedly cured a neonate suffering from a rare disease.
Methemoglobinemia (MetHb), a blood disorder in which an abnormal amount of methemoglobin is produced, was diagnosticated in a boy born at the maternity hospital No. 4. Altogether, only about 600 cases of this disease have been diagnosticated worldwide. The patient of the Krasnodar perinatal centre was the first child in the region with such diagnosis.
At the age of two months, the patient was transferred from the resuscitation unit to the general ward of the regional children’s hospital. After the treatment course, the boy was discharged from hospital. Now he is three months old, and he is in no danger any more. This case was not the first professional feat of Kuban doctors. Last December, local surgeons performed a successful operation on a four-day-old neonate suffering from valvular heart disease.
