Krasnodar, 5 December – Yug Times. Last week, Krasnodar City Hall organised a strategic session devoted to the prospects of the urban transport infrastructure, housing and communal service, construction industry and comfortable environment.
The participants expressed their opinion that in order to become a ‘smart’ city, Krasnodar will have to resolve a number of problems: the central part of the city needs renovation, the degree of wear of the city’s supply pipelines exceeds 60%, and the residents of Krasnodar are subject to constant ecological pressure. Krasnodar is the 24th city with the biggest traffic jams in the world!
One of the possible ways to resolve all these problems is to develop and optimise the public transport, and change the people’s attitude to it.
One of the projects put forward for discussion was that of an overland metro. Its construction would mean upgrading of the old railway networks running through the city centre, launch of new trains and carriages, organisation of comfortable pedestrian structure by the metro stations, and synchronisation of the future metro’s timetable with that of other transports.
Another issue discussed was that of an underground tube. According to the plan, a 20-station line should connect Sportivnaya station (near the Basket Hall) with the airport. If constructed, this meridional chord would become a full-value and probably the only alternative to the motor road joining two opposite parts of the city. The tentative cost of the projects is about a billion roubles for 1 km of the line – however, the City Hall has already begun to discuss the issue with potential investors.
All discussed issues will reportedly be detailed in the upcoming “Krasnodar agglomeration development strategy”.
