Krasnodar, 4 December – Yug Times. The Kuban police are reportedly blocking all possible channels for drugs sales. Police Lieutenant Colonel Igor Goncharov, Deputy Head of the Drug Control Department of the Krasnodar regional police:
“The problem of new types of synthetic drugs and toxicants generally referred to as ‘spice’ acquired importance in the middle of 2009, due to their mass imports from European countries via Russia’s northern regions.
“Undoubtedly, it was the active development of communicative means, especially Internet that became an important tool for such penetration. It would be enough to say that 99% of all synthetic drugs are sold through Internet shops and different platforms that are as a rule located outside Russia.
“Pharmacies also sell a number of materials that may render stupefacient effect and cause strong addiction. Such materials as Terpinkod, Tropicamide, and especially Lyrica are finding a ready market among the drug-addicts.
“We control the work of the pharmacies. There were instances when the work of entire pharmaceutical chains had to be stopped.
“Besides, the police monitor the Internet. Our efforts have resulted in the blockage of 438 websites that propagandized spread of drugs and other illegal activities with them.”
