Krasnodar, 6 November – Yug Times. Ataman of the Brukhovetsky Cossack Community Igor Surmach has recounted The Yug Times about the education and upbringing of the young generation in their village.
The Cossack Island skansen in Brukhovetskaya is not merely meant to attract tourists. Every day, it becomes the venue of activities of local teenagers, where they take master classes, horse riding lessons, and participate in historical reconstructions. Weekdays as well as weekends are filled with interesting activities in Brukhovetskaya.
Ataman Surmach says that the elder generation likes to see the young Cossacks participate in parades and sports contests, to keep the Memory Watch. Senior teenagers take part in the Autonomous search and tourist Cossack club “The Forgotten Regiment”.
“The Cossack movement is not a social club,” Surmach says. “There is no window dressing here, because it’s our genetic code.”
Presently the Brukhovetsky District Cossack Community is one of the most numerous detachments of the Kuban Cossack Host. It consists of 10 Cossack communities, or more than 1,000 members. The men safeguard public order, take part in the work of the mobile team fighting with illegal turnover of drugs, and teach applied military sports.
