Krasnodar, 25 October – Yug Times. Recently Krasnodar was officially granted the status of a megalopolis and one of the biggest cities in Russia. The transition to a new quality will bring the city certain privileges.
“For several years, we had been trying to get acknowledgment of this status, and I am pleased that it happened on the Day of the City,” Mayor Yevgeni Pervyshov was quoted as saying during the celebration of the 225th birthday of Krasnodar. “It is also important that Krasnodar has one of the highest shares of economically active population, which can positively affect the development of the city.”Krasnodar became Russia’s 16th city with the population of more than a million. How can the city make use of its new status?
In Russia, large cities are traditionally considered a good place for the sales market, and thus they become ‘tasty morsels’ for logistical centres and representations of international companies. Consequently, it means new investments, opening of new jobs, and more taxes paid into the municipal budget. Besides, foreign countries tend to open new consulates and representative offices of big companies in such cities.
They also often become the venue of important international events and a better air hub. It is possible that in the near future dwellers of Krasnodar will not have to go to Moscow or nearby Rostov-on-Don to get a visa or spend their holidays at an oversea resort.
