Krasnodar, 11 July – Yug Times. Now, five years after the first paid car park appeared in Krasnodar, the system continues to rouse public censure and irritation.
At one point, the opening of the Gorodskie Parkovki (City Car Parks) company and its getting authorized to collect car park fees provoked a couple of loud scandals. For instance, our article “Paid Car Parks: Injustice Ratio” received powerful backing from our readers. In the meantime, the company continues to swallow new and new spots and develop its parking net. Recently, the regional branch of the All-Russia Popular Front was reviewing several complaints about poor organization of the guarded paid car parks in the centre of Krasnodar. The complaints asserted that the announcements on the digital displays were not true - usually because of the careless parking of some car owners. The place shown as a free one was in fact partially occupied and could not be used to park another car whose driver had already entered the park (because he or she saw the announcement) and had to pay for the parking that had never occurred. “These claims are absolutely lawful: the paid services must be duly rendered,” stated Svetlana Bessarab, chair of the Popular Front’s regional workgroup “Social Justice” and deputy of the State Duma.
She noted that although initially the townspeople did not like the idea of paid car parks, now they have got used to this service.
“But we also noted that the parking business have also ‘got used’ and began to pull up the prices, without paying care to the service,” said Ms. Bessarab.
The public activists have addressed the Consumers’ Rights Committee and the City Hall asking them to do a thorough checkup of the work of the car parks in Krasnodar.
