Krasnodar, 29 June – Yug Times. At 4:00 am on June 22, the anniversary of the Nazi Germany’s attacking the USSR, Krasnodar played host to a mass procession Memory Candle, in commemoration of the Day of Mourning.
People of different ages and trades, veterans, public activists and students slowly proceeded with lit candles and lamps in their hands from Teatralnaya Square to the memorial complex Eternal Flame located at Pamiati Geroev (Heroes’ Memory) Square, escorted by wartime machines and to the accompaniment of records of announcements of the Soviet Informbureau (the governmental body that informed the Soviet population of the situation at the battlefronts during WWI). The participants of the procession laid flowers to the Eternal Flame and the bas-reliefs, and set the lit candles in front of the walls of the memorial complex. The mournful requiemrally in honour of the fallen compatriots took place in the venue.
At 10:00 am, all national and regional flags were lowered, vehicle traffic and work of enterprises was suspended as a remembrance of the millions of war victims. Motorists and drivers of public transport gave a mournful horn to honour them.
