Krasnodar, 27 June – Yug Times. The Musical Theatre in Krasnodar has ended the season by Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto.
The plot of the opera is based on Victor Hugo’s play “Le Roi s’amuse” (The King Amuses Himself) written nearly 200 years ago. In Krasnodar, the opera was staged by the guest producer Georgi Isaakian, artistic and stage director of the Moscow State Academic Children’s Musical Theatre, who carried the action into the New York of the 1930s, the gangsters’ epoch.
So Italian mafiosi appear on the stage instead of the king and his retinue. Now the protagonist is a stately, handsome and prick-and-span member of the gang of bandits, and not a humped, funny and horrible jester. His party was performed by Vladimir Kuznetsov, the owner of a velvety baritone and leading soloist of the theatre.
Gilda was played by Olga Zharikova, a new soloist of the theatre, and it was a successful debut.
