Krasnodar, 26 June – Yug Times. For many years, Kuban Cossacks have been partaking in all global sports events held in the Krasnodar region: the 2014 Winter Olympics, F1 race, and now - the World Cup. This time again the Cossacks lived up to expectations and justified the trust of the regional authorities and inhabitants.
The Cossacks took over the watch on June 12. He will be staying in Sochi until the end of the championship. We have asked Valeri Yefremov, Deputy Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Host, to recount the tasks of the Cossack police support officers.
“From June 12 until July 15, 538 Cossack officers are in Sochi, maintaining public peace together with police,” he said. “The guarding is provided around the Fisht Stadium, all streets of Greater Sochi, and traffic centres - 38 patrolling routes altogether.”
According to Valeri Yefremov, the most important requirement made to the patrolling Cossack officers is to behave correctly with all visitors and residents of Sochi. The Cossacks had been selected in the information centres on equal terms with police officers, thus only professionals are now working in Sochi. Another requirement was to have a basic command of English, to be able to communicate with the overseas guests.
The Kuban Cossack Host’s Guard of Honour has for ten years been a landmark of the Kuban region. So it was no wonder that the Infantry Group of the Guard of Honour went to Sochi together with the Kuban Brass Orchestra to present the favourite ceremony called “Kuban’s Day of Glory” to the guests of the Mundial (in Krasnodar, the ceremony is held every Sunday, where it draws crowds of spectators).
On June 14 in Sochi, the ceremonies were performed twice: by the City Hall and in the fan zone. The young handsome Cossacks clad in red Circassian coats outshone everyone else in the square.
