Krasnodar, 8 June – Yug Times. An unusual project has reportedly been dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian police to be celebrated on June 5. The aim of the project is to remind of the names of the heroes of the past and attract the attention of the contemporary youth to the study of the past. Our today’s interviewee is Police Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Lubin, Head of the Department for Coordination with Civil Society Institutions of the Sector of Informational Support and Public Relations of the regional branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
– We used the year 2014 as the starting point for the project called ‘Detective Yekaterinodar’. Then, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the victory in WWII, it was decided to do something really interesting and at the same part connected with the work of the militia during the war. The idea developed into a documentary film based on the memoirs of our veterans. Of course, this film doesn’t fully correspond to the Hollywood standards, but it turned out to be quite interesting and informative.
Further on, we showed this film to our colleagues, as well as to schoolchildren and university students – and we liked the work we had done so much that we decided to keep it on and make a new film about the Kuban police of the beginning of the 20th century. Due to various historical circumstances, it was just a narrow circle of professional experts that had been aware of their work until recently.
We took the book written by Prof. Valeri Ratushniak of the Kuban State University as the basis for our second film. Besides, our initiative group worked in archives and in the field for a long while. For the documentary film, it was necessary to choose the location; so we gradually began to find the edifices and the places this or that way connected with the work of the police in the city of Yekaterinodar.
Notwithstanding the fact that our project was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the police, we plan to continue this work. There are a lot of unstudied documents on Krasnodar and other cities. Besides, we want to perpetuate the memory of other police officers and find other buildings of historic importance.
