Krasnodar, 30 May – Yug Times. Pointing to the necessity of development of alternative, renewable power engineering, Dmitri Kholkin, Director of the Project Centre for Development of Innovations of the “Centre for Strategic Developments” Foundations, is sure that the Russian power system is awaiting huge technological changes.
“Many experts are arguing that the fashion for green power engineering would shortly come to an end, and the life would put everything rights. And I tend to agree with this assumption.
“In Russia, extremities remain strong: either to burn the fuel with might and main, or to fully shift to alternative power supply. Probably, as soon as the stimulating impact of these processes would get neutralized, some new state of things would appear – though not now yet.
“Meanwhile, it is necessary to acknowledge that renewable power engineering in Russia is extremely backward. I can’t see any growth drivers in it.
“Currently, the humankind is in the state of energy transition, waiting for new social and economic technologies to appear.
“Of course, there is a fashion for green power engineering, but we shouldn’t be carried away with it too much. The stake on wind and sun is in fact not as important as on may be thinking it is – moreover, bearing in mind that in this segment we are lagging behind the West and wouldn’t be able to catch up with them. This is why, we have to understand that now we have started facing new technological breakthroughs that we have to urgently respond to.
“Knowing the market situation from within, I may say that on many positions Russia is prepared together with Western companies to offer such advanced solutions that may help power engineering take a leap forward. The technologies created in this country would let us do it.
“The main momentum of the upcoming transformations is not the kind of energy – nuclear, solar or some other – we will be producing and consuming, but how we will be doing it.”
