Krasnodar, 12 April – Yug Times. World Health Day celebrated on April 7 has become an occasion to analyze the situation in regional medicine. Our interviewee on the topic was Yevgeni Filippov, Minister for Public Health of the Krasnodar region. As a reference point, we took theses from Vladimir Putin’s March address to the Federal Assembly.
Q.: In his address, Vladimir Putin touched upon the necessity of introduction of innovations in all spheres of life. Are Kuban physicians prepared to work in that direction?
A.: We are more than prepared - for a long time we have been introducing [best] global innovations, so that now these high technologies are readily accessible to all.
In the region, 40,000 people were rendered hi-tech medical aid last year; by 10,000 more than in 2016. Altogether, our doctors performed more than 600,000 operations of various difficulty, helping their patients get rid of their illness and return to active life.
Q.: When we speak about regional health care, we cannot but touch upon demography.
A.: We are keeping the regional infant mortality index at the European level of 4.3, which is lower than the mean Russian figure (5.3). In our region, we are able to nurse premature newborns of 500 grams. Over the past five years, specialists of the perinatal centres have rescued more than 800 infants born with extremely low weight (less than a kilogram).
Q.: Growing mean life expectancy is one of the main indices of health care progress. How can you comment on this index in the Kuban region?
A.: Life expectancy in Kuban has exceeded the record figure of 73 years, which is higher than the mean national value. The work of the Kuban health care specialists has made it possible to decrease the total mortality index - for the first time over the past 20 years it dropped to its historical minimum of 12.5 per 1,000.
