Krasnodar, 28 February – Yug Times. In our previous issue, we wrote about the Great Assembly of Russian Cossacks held in Moscow’s Christ the Saviour’s Cathedral on February 15. The gathering had reportedly summoned delegates of all eleven Cossack Hosts officially registered in Russia. Formation of the All-Russian Registered Cossack Host was one of the main items in the agenda of the Great Assembly. The decision to found the Host was unanimously taken by the delegates.
Upon coming back to Krasnodar, Vice Governor and Ataman of the Kuban Cossack Host Nikolai Doluda held a press conference devoted to the results of the forum and plans for the near future.
“The main aim of our steps towards unification is uniform development of all Cossack Hosts in Russia,” stated Mr. Doluda. He also listed the priority tasks that the new organization will be facing.
Anticipating questions about who will be the Ataman of the All-Russia Cossack Host, Mr. Doluda said that the Supreme Ataman will be appointed, not elected. He was quoted as saying: “It’s natural that each of the eleven registered Cossack Hosts will want to nominate their own candidate - but it’s the Presidential Council on Cossack Affairs that is authorized to present the candidate. And it’s President who will approve the Supreme Ataman.
Mr. Doluda also commented on the few arguments voiced against the formation of the national Cossack association: “Any good deal has had and will have its opponents; there’s no getting away from it. As soon as some advancement takes place, there appear those who would want to put a spoke in the wheel.” Commenting on the questions about today’s international situation, Nikolai Doluda advised not to forget that Russia is currently experiencing a serious external pressure and is exposed to numerous attacks from different sides.
“A mighty and united Cossack Host will promote strengthening of Russia’s statehood,” said he, making a conclusion on the role of the Russian Cossacks in warding off the external threats.
