Krasnodar, 27 September – Yug Times. Traditionally, the festivity took place on the last weekend of the first autumn month — on September 23 and 24.
The celebration of the 224th anniversary of the foundation of the Kuban capital began with a flag-raising ceremony that was held at Teatralnaya Square. The banner was raised on a 42-metre-high flagstaff, to the live accompaniment of the city anthem and Cossack folk songs.
Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev used his Twitter account to wish the townsfolk many happy returns of the day.
“Today’s Krasnodar is the capital of Russia’s stronghold region and a city of huge ambitions and opportunities,” wrote Mr. Kondratiev. “It attracts dozens of thousands of people who are coming here with different goals — to build the career, to start a business, to create a family, but they all decide to stay here because Krasnodar is a city convenient to live in.”
On its feast day, Krasnodar welcomed numerous foreign delegations — from sister-cities Karlsruhe (Germany), Burgas (Bulgaria), Yerevan (Armenia), and Wels (Austria).
According to City Mayor Yevgeni Pervyshov, people come to Krasnodar, and they want to make friends with it, which means that Krasnodar is a successfully developing city.
